2011 – the year when a lot happened…
by ciaran on Jan.09, 2012, under news
2011 was super busy for me, thanks to all the agencies and companies who got me involved and were down for some collaborative all-round radness. Here’s a few of my favourite motion graphics pieces from during the year…
Karmarama: KTV news
Back toward the end of April when we were all enjoying the unseasonably warm days, with a pair of 4 day weekends back to back, this neat little project swung by my way – a short news sting for a fictional news broadcast by London agency Karmarama. In and out the door in a couple of days, woo-hoo!
Evoque Live
This is a short edit of a collection of shots I made for the lavish launch show for Range Rover’s Evoque series in May 2011. The tune comes from the soundtrack to the show, though we originally used a different, orchestral sound for this section. I’ve re-rendered a few shots to get them to a more eyeball/monitor friendly size – the original pieces weighed in at a neck twisting 3600px x 360px.
Hyundai i40
Toward the end of November, Hyundai wanted some motion graphics pieces to help reveal their new i40 car. This is what I made with 3 studio photos of the car. Hyped on this one, turned out good!

These were good laugh to do for DC toward the tail end of the summer. Made the trek to Truro, several train journeys over to Cardiff and traipsed around Bristol with all the kit, got busy with the aould camera, the boys all delivered the goods on and off the board, then I went and chopped it up, put it all together and added some polish, which was tight.
Droplets Series 2 launch night

Check out this quick piece with Jam Factory design genius Gav Strange about his Droplets launch night some weeks back for which I did some motion design of epic proportions… Pretty stoked to see the animation projected on the Banksy wall opposite 50-50 that night. Props to Gav and Makinov for putting this together.
Muscular and compact, like corned beef…

Amidst the day to day professions I’ve got on the go, such as wearing smoking jackets, testing cognac and Cuban cigars, alongside the awesomeness of motion design, I’m also cutting together a new showreel. The best/worst part has been working out the intricacies and complications involved with multipass renders, object buffers and not using motion blur when exporting from C4D and doing my best to avoid crucifying my arse to my face.
Footage looks pretty damn good I have to say, but sweet jesus it better when it takes 3 hours to render each frame!
