Perspectives of various formats
by ciaran on Dec.29, 2011, under news
I recently helped out good friend, citizen of Bray, Co.Wicklow and cinematographer of epic proportions Phil Evans with his Format Perspective documentary.
Bankrolled by clothing brand Carhartt, Format Perspective is a 1 hour documentary and extremely sexy coffee table book about the work, life, motivation, visual style and of 6 skateboard photographers from various parts of Europe, ranging from the pro-am enthusiast to the magazine editor to the fine artist to the team manager and everything in between. It’s shot entirely on Super 8 movie film and made with bits of real panther, so you know it’s good.

HDSLR, depth of field & dubstep.

Recently picked up a basic Canon 550D with an f1.4 50mm prime and this is the first project I’ve used it on with another company. Seems pretty nifty so far – really enjoying the obscenely narrow DOF the prime lens can achieve, making footage look like a photo. The workflow & ergonomics of using a DSLR over a proper video camera still need some getting used to, but as ever, there’s loads more still to come.
Droplets Series 2 launch night
by ciaran on May.26, 2010, under motion design, news, play
Check out this quick piece with Jam Factory design genius Gav Strange about his Droplets launch night some weeks back for which I did some motion design of epic proportions… Pretty stoked to see the animation projected on the Banksy wall opposite 50-50 that night. Props to Gav and Makinov for putting this together.
Droplets 2 launch
by ciaran on Feb.11, 2010, under motion design, news, play
So design overlord Gav Strange aka Jam Factory had a new series of his Droplets vinyl toy launch last Saturday, complete with a batch of 50 customised versions from various art & design goons from up & down the country. He sent me over an Illustrator file & this is what I did to sexify it with C4D & AE, which he then projected on the wall outside. Shit hot! Get on down with the interweb geekout at jam-factory.com and at Droplet’s flickr pool. Props to Gav, everybody was stoked & he was beyond hyped…
