Larian Studios

I’ve been in and out of Larian Studios for a couple of years, doing some motion design for them – animating concept art, logos, editing promos, adding fire, explosions and lens flares to footage, all that sort of fun stuff.

And then, back in November 2019, Larian turned their computer game expertise to board games.  To get the €160,000 they were looking for via Kickstarter, they got me involved to take their graphics for the various board game elements – counters, dice, board, etc. – and 3D printer files for the figures and create something loosely snazzy to go into the Kickstarter.

Now, within a day, they secured their funding, which meant more and more stretch goals were unlocked, all the way up to €1.8 million in pledges after the 30 days were up.  And, by any measure, that’s a lot of stretch goals for a Kickstarter project.

The Kickstarter was my first project using Redshift for work and it seemed to go OK.  It’s still a technically demanding plug-in/program and I don’t find it that easy, but goddamn it looks cool – love how it’s easy to get narrow depth of field images with minimal render times from it.

And, the popularity of the project put it, and my mugshot of one of the characters, Farzanah, on the Kickstarter front page, lovely stuff.
